How to Highlight in Gmail?

As Gmail is used as one of the most prominent communication applications both personally and professionally, chances are high for important emails to be sunk under the high inflow of emails. To combat this situation, Gmail provides several features which let the user highlight the mails both send and received as urgent. More than one method is available to make this possible and some of the major ones are discussed below.

How to create labels to highlight a received email as urgent?

Step 1. Open the Gmail application on the concerned device.

Step 2. Click on the Settings option that appears at the top right part of the Gmail window.

Step 3. From the drop-down menu, click on the See All Settings option.

Step 4. Under the Settings option, choose the section titled Labels.

Step 5. Click on the Create New Label option that appears right next to the Labels section.

Step 6. On the dialogue box that appears, enter the name of the label as you wish and click on the Create option at the bottom. You can enter highlighting labels such as Emergency, Urgent, etc.

Step 7. Once the Create option is pressed, a label under the chosen title will be created and the user will be immediately notified of the same.

How to add labels to emails?

Step 1. Open the Gmail application on the device.

Step 2. Open the email to be highlighted and find the label icon at the top of the email in the search bar and click on it.

Step 3. From the drop-down menu that appears, choose the label which was already created by the user and then click on the Apply option at the bottom of the box.

Step 4. The email will be immediately added to the assigned label and a notification intimating the same will be received by the user. 

Step 5. The email labeled can be found to be carrying it on the left of the mail itself afterward.

How to create a filter to highlight the important emails?

Step 1. Open the Gmail account on the device.

Step 2. Click on the Show Search Options that appear at the right end of the search bar.

Step 3. Enter the details of the sender whose mails would like to have highlighted in the inbox and click on the Create Filter option that is present at the bottom of the dialogue box.

Step 4. From the dialogue box, find the Apply the Label option.

Step 5. Choose the label that you want to assign to the particular sender. You can either add already existing labels or create new ones.

Step 6. Once the label is chosen or written, click on the Create Filter option that appears at the bottom part of the dialogue box.

Step 7. A notification will be received regarding the creation of the filter. Future emails from the particular sender will be appearing with the highlighted label along with it.
