One of the worst-case scenarios dreaded by any smart gadget user is the instance of being stolen off the device. As the digital world is getting advanced every day, it is the smartphone or device used by a particular person that contains all the crucial information on the person. The Gmail and Google accounts are already signed in by the person in the personal phone or gadget and getting those devices stolen puts the privacy of the sensitive information and the security of the user at risk. So, to avoid such scenarios, Gmail is equipped with advanced security features which let the user get access to his or her Gmail account remotely and even let to sign out from it. This way, the sensitive information present in the Gmail account can be protected.
How to remotely sign out of Gmail on a lost or missing device?
Step 1. Get into any browser and open your Gmail.
Step 2. Click on the Settings icon that is present at the top right portion of the window.
Step 3. From the drop-down menu that appears, click on the See all settings option.
Step 4. From the options that appear, choose the Accounts section.
Step 5. Click on the Google Account Settings option from what appears.
Step 6. From the Account section, choose the Security option.
Step 7. Go to the Your Devices section.
Step 8. Click on the Manage all devices option.
Step 9. The information on all the devices that have used your Gmail account in the last 28 days would appear on the screen.
Step 10. You can choose the device from which you intend to sign out and click on the sign-out option.
You will be successfully signed out from the stolen device now and you can sign in to the account once the missed device is recovered or else through a new device.
If you intend to find the lost device, follow the initial steps mentioned above to reach the Your Devices section in the Security option of the Google Account Settings. Then click on the Find Lost Device to check the current status of the device.
Details on the missing device may appear on the screen or else, a ‘No device found’ message will be appearing.
If you want to change the password of your Google account for added safety, open the Gmail account and follow the steps mentioned above till opening the Security section of the Google Account Settings. Then follow the steps below.
Step 1. Find the Signing into Google option.
Step 2. Click on the Password option present at the bottom of the box.
Step 3. A sign-in box appears on the screen which should be filled with the present password of the user. And then, click Next.
Step 4. Once the Next option is clicked a slot to enter the new password is provided on the screen and click on the Save option after finishing it.
Now the password is changed and thus, the privacy of the information in the lost device may not be compromised anymore.
