Being a documenting application, Google Docs is widely used across the world for creative processes like note-making, designing, etc. when it comes to serving the note-making purpose of Google Docs, or designing it is inevitable for the platform to be able to support drawing and similar functions for the user. Google Docs, despite being one of the earlier platforms for documenting and note-making has incorporated several features which let the user draw or insert different shapes and patterns into the document.
It is the Drawing Tool that supports the user in inserting or entering shapes and patterns. The drawing tool is also widely used for inserting text boxes into a document. It also lets the user customize the shapes and text boxes according to his or her personal preference and this enables the shapes and the related content to get highlighted amidst the rest of the document.
The drawing tool consists of several shapes, styles of lines, call-outs, etc. which provides ample support for the user in the note-making. Text can also be included inside these shapes and thus, they are ideal to make diagrams and charts that are both informative and visually appealing at the same time.
How to insert shapes in Google Docs?
Step 1. Open the Gmail application on your device.
Step 2. Click on the Google Apps at the top right corner of the window and click on the Google Docs option from the drop-down menu that appears.
Step 3. Click on the document in which the shapes have to be inserted or click open a new fresh document.
Step 4. Click on the Insert option located in the middle of the top menu bar.
Step 5. From the drop-down menu that appears, click on the Drawing function.
Step 6. Out of the two options that appear, click on the New option.
Step 7. On clicking the New option, a Drawing dialogue box appears.
Step 8. Numerous drawing commands will be present at the top of the Drawing dialogue box.
Step 9. To insert any shape, click on the Shape icon at the top menu bar of the dialogue box.
Step 10. From the few options that appear, click on the Shapes option.
Step 11. Several shapes appear on the drop-down list for the user to choose from.
Step 12. Move the cursor to any of the shapes present in the list and click on it. When the cursor is placed on top of each shape, the name of the respective shape is shown on the screen at the bottom of the shape.
Step 13. Once a shape is chosen, the user can click the cursor on the drawing area and hold the cursor and then pull to nay side to reveal the shape there.
Step 14. The size of the shape can be reduced and increased with the help of the cursor and any kind of alterations are possible with the drawing tool.
Step 15. Click on the drawn shape to reveal the editing options to appear on the top menu bar.
Step 16. Click on the Fill Color option at the top to fill the color inside the shape.
How to create a text box inside a shape?
Creating a text box inside a shape enables the user to type content into it. This lets the content be highlighted and easily noticeable.
Step 1. On the drawing dialogue box, create the required shape in the required size and color.
Step 2. Click on the Text Box icon present at the top menu bar of the drawing dialogue box.
Step 3. Position the cursor inside the shape where you intend to insert the text box, hold the cursor and then pull to the sides. Once the text box reaches the required size and shape, release the cursor. The text box is now in place.
Step 4. Click on the Settings icon at the left of the text box to control and customize the text box.
Step 5. Double click inside the text box to start entering the text in it.
Step 6. To change the font of the text, select the text and then click on the Font icon at the top menu bar to reveal the list of fonts. The user can pick the ideal one from them.
Step 7. After finishing the customizations, click on the Save and Close option at the top right corner of the dialogue box.
Step 8. Now the shape and text appear in the document.
