How to Hide Emails in Gmail?

At times, some Gmail account holders hide the less necessary emails from the primary inbox without permanently deleting them through the process of archiving, manually moving the emails to a new folder, etc. The hidden emails can be accessed via multiple methods like searching the top bar, going through the All Mail folder, etc. 

How to archive an email on a computer?

Step 1. Open the Gmail application on the device.

Step 2. Click and select the checkbox on the left side of the emails that have to be archived.

Step 3. Click on the Archive button that appears at the top of the window.

Step 4. A notification appears on the bottom left of the Gmail window regarding the status of the archived email.

Step 5. If an email has to be archived after opening it, find the archive button at the top of the window and click on it.

Step 6. A notification will be received right after the archive button is clicked.

How to archive an email on a mobile device?

Step 1. Open the Gmail application on the mobile device.

Step 2. Find the email to be archived, press onto it, and swipe it either left or right until it disappears.

Step 3. A notification appears at the bottom of the screen regarding the status of the archived email.

How to hide emails manually from the Gmail inbox?

Step 1. Open the Gmail application on the concerned device.

Step 3. From the options that appear at the top search bar, click on the Move To option.

Step 4. From the drop-down menu that appears, click on the Create New option.

Step 5. Assign a name and location for the folder to be created and click on the create option below.

Step 6. Once created, the selected email will be immediately moved to the specific folder and a notification regarding the same will be provided to the user.

How to create a filter to hide emails?

Less necessary emails from the same source can be hidden by default using the filter feature of Gmail.

Step 1. Open the Gmail application on the device.

Step 2. Click on the Settings option on the top right part of the Gmail window.

Step 3. From the drop-down menu, click on See All Settings.

Step 4. Click on the Filters and Blocked Addresses option.

Step 5. Click on the Create New Filter option that appears at the bottom.

Step 6. Enter the mail id or domain name of the mails that have to be hidden and click on the Create option at the bottom.

Step 7. From the drop-down menu, make sure to check the box that says “Skip the Inbox” and click on the Create Filter Option at the bottom.

Step 8. A notification regarding the creation of the filter is received and afterward, any mails from the filtered sender will be hidden by default but can be found in the All Mail folder.
